When planning for a new baby, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the preparation! Uncertainty about what items you “need” for baby is perfectly normal. With Shiloh, we found ourselves making lots of little purchases throughout her first few months of life as we thought of things that might simplify our lives a bit. Amazon was (and honestly still is) my best friend!

Below I’ve listed our top 5 “non-essential” purchases. If you are an expectant mama, make sure you add these to your registry!

  • TushBaby Baby Carrier (pictured above): Everyone needs this ergonomic baby carrier! Shiloh is a chunky little thing, and this lumbar carrier has been a life-saver for my shoulders and back. With only one buckle, it is SO much easier to put on than other baby carriers, and you have the freedom to move baby around without any extra strapping in. It comes in a few different styles (The black leather is my favorite) and has a surprising amount of storage. My only regret is that we did not purchase it sooner! Use code FRIENDS15 for 15% off. 🙂
  • Bath Mat: Once Shiloh outgrew her bathtub, we switched to this non-slip bath mat. Personally, I don’t like bath mats, so we wanted something small that was easy to remove and store between washes. I love that it has the ability to hang on a shower head, towel rod, or command hook and is designed to dry quickly and prevent mildew.
  • Baby Bum Brush : This Diaper Rash Cream Applicator is a hilariously useful item. When we came home from the hospital Matt brought a giant pack of blue rubber gloves and would put on a pair for every single diaper change. I got tired of finding those gloves everywhere, so I invested in this BabyBumco brush for his sake. It may seem silly at first glance, but who doesn’t hate getting diaper rash cream under their fingernails?
  • Silicone Feeder: This feeder has been one of our most-used items! When feeding Shiloh solid foods, we do a combination of baby-led weaning and traditional spoon feeding. I tend to be a little nervous about choking, so this feeder gives me great peace of mind while still allowing her to explore curiosity and independence. There is a similar baby feeder made of mesh, but I’ve found this silicone feeder to be much less messy and gross. An added bonus: I usually don’t have to worry about packing any baby food when we go out. I just bring this along and feed her a little of whatever I am eating.
  • Boon Bottle Drying Rack: We love this low profile countertop drying rack. It comes in two different colors and there are multiple size options. Boon also has a line of accessories that help make this product even more effective! We use the white “twig” accessory, which you can find here.

Moms, what baby items did you find most useful? What items were a waste of money? Let me know in the comments. 🙂
